Living walls are a unique addition to the workplace. Living walls are vertical gardens attached to the exterior or interior walls. They differ from green facades (e.g. ivy walls) in that the plants root in a support structure fastened to the wall itself. Living walls can fill an empty space with colour or create a dramatic impact where needed. The wall can also give workers a welcome respite from the stress of the work day, where research has shown that introducing plants into the workspace can boost employee productivity.
We have been working on living walls in a number of facilities for many years. We have restored existing walls for clients and developed new installations. The overall effect is to bring the outside....inside. This is especially significant in the winter months because these walls are always green. Plant species are carefully chosen to improve the air quality and improve the interior view.
To sum up, the multiple benefits of living walls to workplaces and their employees are significant. Bringing the outdoors inside helps improve building air quality and reduce noise pollution, which has a positive impact on employees’ productivity. Plus they are a beautiful unique addition to any indoor environment.
